So, it’s off to college for your student…dorms, class schedules, labs and football games. Before they step foot on campus, you have to help your student figure out their finances. With so many options out there, it can be a bit overwhelming.
At BancorpSouth, we want to help you (and your student) make the transition to college as easy as possible. Below we have identified several questions you or your student may be asking when it comes to choosing the right account for their college life.
Q: ATMS: Are there any near campus? Does your student have to pay a fee to withdraw cash?
A: BancorpSouth has over 25 free-standing ATM locations and 230 branches, most of which also have ATMs, across our footprint. Check out our handy branch locator here. You never pay a fee for the use of our ATM if you are a BancorpSouth customer.
Q: Location: Is there a branch located close to campus in case your child needs assistance with something?
A: The BancorpSouth branch locator is here to help.
Q: Customer Service: Is there a Call Center to help if something comes up?
A: Our Customer Service Representatives are available Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Central Standard Time) by calling 1-888-797-7711.
Q: Fees: What is the monthly account service fee? Can this fee be waived?
A: None. Nada. Zip. Our student checking account has no fees for account holders 24 years old and younger.*
Q: Balance: Is there a minimum balance requirement for the account?
A: Not at all. We do not require students to maintain a minimum balance. It’s college. We get it.
Q: The Card: Does the student account come with a debit card?
A: A convenient Mastercard® Debit Card comes with the student checking account.
Q: Text Alerts: Can my student set up balance alerts?
A: Yes. You can set up balance notifications through our easy-to-use Online Banking service.
Q: Overdraft: Is there overdraft protection available on the account and what is the fee for use?
A: Yes. Get more info here.
Q: Access: Can I transfer money to my student’s account easily?
A: This should probably be the first question. Yes. If you have a BancorpSouth checking account and are enrolled with our Online Banking services, you can take advantage of online transfers for internal and external transfers. This allows you to transfer money from your personal checking account to your child’s student checking account. There is no cost for this service if the transfer is an internal transfer to another BancorpSouth account.
We hope this helps get you (or your student) off on the right foot and headed towards a bright financial future. To get started, we invite you to give us a call, visit a branch or click www.bancorpsouth.com/studentchecking.
